Amanda Lucas 10/25/2017 8:25 PMMUAHAHA, I am barely beating you, mom -
Amanda Lucas 10/25/2017 7:28 AMI hope we get another Eco Challenge soon!! I feel like I'm only just starting. ;)-
Missy Lucas 10/25/2017 4:37 PMWho says you have to stop? 😅 -
Margery Lucas 10/25/2017 2:11 PMI am going to try to keep going with the gratitude goal for sure. These 2 weeks have been a great reset for me as far as choosing fresh food for meals, not accepting plastic bags, etc. I want to keep that going too.

Amanda Lucas 10/24/2017 6:19 PMOh man... I got completely wiped out this past week. I ended up working 54 hours the first week and 52 hours the second. Got completely burnt out from my job and had to basically start everything from scratch. I'm getting enough sleep now, but I feel like I had to reset everything as far as routine goes. The only things I really managed to keep in tact were the toilet bank (I haven't noticed a difference thankfully, so that is easy) and not changing the thermostat.-
Missy Lucas 10/25/2017 4:37 PMGood reminder @Margery Lucas 😜 -
Margery Lucas 10/24/2017 8:24 PMRemember you can go back by scrolling through the date at the top of dashboard page to mark off things you completed past days, like the thermostat. It will add points to our team ;) -
Missy Lucas 10/24/2017 8:11 PMAnd that is perfectly fine! It's important and valuable to recognize that meaningful positive change is almost ALWAYS a long-term process. We all have those crazy days, weeks, etc, and it's important to maintain overall balance as best as you can even in those rocky times.
This 2-week EcoChallenge isn't about being perfect, or about suddenly doing everything right, because neither of those are realistic or sustainable expectations. Instead, it's about trying new things, and taking the first of (hopefully) many more steps on a lifelong journey towards healthy and meaningful living 😇

Amanda Lucas 10/14/2017 11:58 AMI worked out 12 minutes instead of 5... yaaaaay-
Amanda Lucas 10/24/2017 9:38 PMI like doing yoga! Cardio training and weights are kind of exhausting to be honest; I pike exercise that utilizes your mind and coordination in addition to core strength and flexibility. I feel like lifting weights would help if I wanted to be able to pick up large boxes or something, but yoga helps with breathing, posture, sitting, stretching, etc—stuff I do everyday! -
Missy Lucas 10/15/2017 9:41 AMGood job 😅 What type of exercise do you prefer ?

Amanda Lucas 10/14/2017 11:58 AMWhew... it's 90 degrees outside and I usually keep my thermostat at 78 (but with the challenge I have to keep it at 80). It's tough to stay cool other than using fans and drinking cold drinks! Maybe I will go out to the library or somewhere that is a little cooler. In the evenings I can open the windows and let in the cool breeze, but during the day is the hardest part.-
Missy Lucas 10/15/2017 9:48 AMYes, fans and cold drinks help! I also recommend wearing natural, lightweight, breathable fabrics (like cotton -- organic if you can). 👚👕
Personally I try to sit outside as much as possible in order to keep myself physically acclimated to the weather; I've been surprised how fast I was able to adapt to feeling comfortable in the hot outdoors after doing it often enough. (If you are doing computer work, it is best in the morning or evening for the laptop's sake; to sit out in the middle of the day, try reading a book or writing in a journal.) Plus, being outside often offers a pleasant breeze that helps cool your body down naturally. You might be surprised how soon you get used to it and come to appreciate it 🌬🌞🌳

Amanda Lucas 10/13/2017 9:54 PMRats!! I was tired at work and forgot to not use paper towels to clean my dishes. By the time I remembered two paper towels were already in the trash.-
Margery Lucas 10/14/2017 10:47 AMI did the same thing, was so careful to bring my own bags to the grocery store, even produce bags, but on other errands I accepted a plastic bag from JoAnn Fabrics and did not realize it until I was home. Couldn't check off my goal yesterday :( Moving forward today, takes time to make a habit stick. -
Missy Lucas 10/14/2017 6:27 AMWell good job for being honest about it! That's ok, habits take time to develop -- that's what this 2-week EcoChallenge is for! Every day is a new opportunity to learn from yesterday's mistakes and practice making mindful choices today 🌞 -

Amanda Lucas 10/11/2017 8:28 PMHmmm... even though I completed one of my challenges, it's not counting it as completed. o_o-
Missy Lucas 10/12/2017 7:13 PM😨 Which one?

Amanda Lucas 10/11/2017 8:26 PMI decided to get a toilet bank! It's basically a bladder filled with water that goes inside your toilet to reduce the amount of water used every time you flush. I had noticed that of all my water usage, sewage had been consistently the highest even though I don't use a lot of water. At only $4.50 or so, installing a toilet bank only took about 1 minute and saves up to 2 gallons of water a day. Definitely worth it!!-
Missy Lucas 10/15/2017 9:50 AMGreat video! Thanks for the link -
Margery Lucas 10/12/2017 8:28 PMGood job for researching and following through on doing it! -
Amanda Lucas 10/12/2017 8:18 PMNo problem! Yeah, I had never heard of it until I saw it on the challenges. I looked up a video explaining what it was and how to install it, and then checked the price! It was that simple.
Here's the video I watched! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xW4fcVjGXUc -
Lisa Johnson 10/11/2017 8:36 PMAmazing! I had no idea it was so simple and inexpensive! Thank you for the information.

Amanda Lucas 10/09/2017 7:12 AMAnyone have good ideas for breakfast recipes that don't involve milk or wheat?-
Amanda Lucas 10/12/2017 8:21 PMOooo!! Great ideas! I do tend to eat a lot of pancakes though so I've been trying to incorporate more fruit and veggies in breakfast. I hadn't thought of apple and PB for breakfast though! What a great idea. -
Missy Lucas 10/11/2017 5:30 PMTry any combination of these: 🍽
- Rice
- Fried egg
- Hard-boiled egg
- Boiled potatoes
- Scrambled eggs with lots of veggies (garlic, onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, spinach, basil, cilantro...)
- Green smoothie (mix of fruits & green veggies)
- Pancakes with gluten-free flour
-
Debra Kennedy 10/09/2017 2:50 PMApple slices with peanut butter is yummy.

Amanda Lucas 10/08/2017 12:12 PMIt'll be a cinch doing these at home, but it is more difficult at work. At my job we have a huge supply of plasticware and paper towels, and unfortunately they create a LOT of waste. We go through a roll of paper towels a day. I use my own real dishware and wash it, but often that still requires using paper towels.
I wonder if there is a company-wide solution to reducing waste with the paper towels. It's costly to keep buying them, and they produce so much waste.-
Amanda Lucas 10/08/2017 2:17 PMHa! Great idea!! Stephen has been using those for decades and I'd never heard of doing that before. I'll give it a shot! -
Missy Lucas 10/08/2017 12:21 PMYou can start by getting a few cloth napkins or handkerchiefs to keep in your purse! I got some last week from Goodwill for less than US$1 each -- can't beat that price for 100s of uses, and easy to wash in your weekly load. Great to use at home, or tuck into your purse for the occasional snack or sneeze!
