NSC Sustainability Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Alright team, the last day of EcoChallenge is coming up! If there are any particularly daunting challenges to take on, goals to reach, or words you'd like to share, the time is NOW!

Alright everyone, just a little over half way! Our team has collectively saved over 2000 lbs of CO2! That's great! Even though, the average person in the USA burns through about 19 tons a year... I learned today that even the most energy conserving Americans still burn twice as much as the world average. However, it's possible that if more people made choices like we are doing every day, we might be able to push that floor further down. So even if our individual contributions seem small, remember that it is only through collective action that we can make real change!

I was already doing some of these, but by tracking my daily activity I can see where there's room for improvement.

The shower head had a broken single seal so we had to go and get it replaced. I basically just told my dad and he fixed it.

This challenge has really shifted my  mindset, especially towards saving energy. I've completely changed my habits about turning things off. I go out of my way to turn of my roommates lights too! I even turned their light off while they were home one day out of force of habit, oops!
The hardest part is changing my diet, especially avoiding processed foods. That's something I'm going to need to work on.

Absolutely loving the EcoChallenge so far! I think that the small actions are really adding up like printing double sided, shutting down appliances when they aren't in use, and working on going paperless! How is everyone else's EcoChallenge going?

Nice! I admire whoever can go longer than a month, left alone a year=)). You are awesome!!!! I did try going vegetarian for a month, but my diet is heavily fish sauced, and I cant live w/o it. So you can tell that it didnt go well for me. Till recently Ive learnt about pescetarian and Im so happy. It is perfect for me=))

I've been eating mostly vegetarian meals for a week now! It's been easy since I don't have time to cook during the day anyway. The house is a lot cleaner too. This has been really helping me keep my mind on ways to take actions that are more sustainable.

One more day to EcoChallenge! Yay! I'm super excited. This year I'm joining North Seattle College Eco Team (NSC) again. We are a team of four student and student leaders. We have been promoting Ecochallenge for the whole campus during the Welcome Back BBQ Day, as well as tabling every day since last Wednesday for students to sign up for 2017 challenge with NSC Eco team. The responds are quite well received and we have a number of students who signed up. Since it is just one more day before the challenge, the Sustainability coordinator also sent out an email to invite all the staffs and faculty to be on board with our team. We can't wait until the Ecochallenge officially opened to put on our best behaviours for the next coming two weeks, (not that we are not already doing some of the challenges on our own, but it is always better to be doing it in a group. The more the merrier!)
    Cheers!
