"I am challenging myself specifically to 1) exercise 60+ minutes daily, 2) eat vegan protein breakfasts, and 3) post and discuss with fellow participants information about brain health. More broadly, I hope to help develop a supportive community in our ongoing efforts to deal with the many aspects of cognitive decline."

Learn About Cognitive Decline
Learning and sharing information about dementia and cognitive decline plays an important role in changing behaviors and creating supportive community. Our goal is to create a library of materials and to discuss them.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Derek Treuer 10/26/2017 1:38 PMThe 2 weeks of our EcoChallenge went by quickly. My challenges were enjoyable and productive: 1) developed a library of 12 vegan breakfasts with good protein amounts; 2) a well-started habit of at least 1 hour per day exercise; 3) interesting and informative team exchanges of information on many aspects of improving brain health. Thanks and yay Team! -

Cathy Starkweather 10/17/2017 8:08 AMI need to try the meditation and leaving my bedroom when I'm having trouble falling asleep. I'm so tired that I just want to lie there. One minor criticism about the article: "naturalistic"? The word is "natural". (Okay, that isn't relevant to the topic, but it's distracting.) -
Elissa Treuer 10/17/2017 7:13 AMI read that article, too. Came away feeling there was little I could do to get deeper or longer sleep. Falling asleep is usually no problem. Remaining asleep, on the other hand ...

Derek Treuer 10/16/2017 12:04 PMA NIH sponsored report that conservatively suggests behavior changes may positively effect cognitive decline:

Cathy Starkweather 10/17/2017 7:58 AMThanks for finding this. It's a good summary. Like Elissa, I wish they had given more information on cognitive training. I'm betting balancing redox equations counts. -
Elissa Treuer 10/16/2017 1:45 PMInteresting. The blood pressure link was new to me. I would have liked a definition of 'cognitive training' since they did say that computer brain games were not it. Thanks for posting.
