Coming from Australia where the droughts are severe and long, water is a precious commodity for me and I like to see some of the daily practices from there being introduced here before there is a true need for it.  Over there people from my hometown are limited to the water use they are permitted and if going over they face penalties.  They limit showers to four minutes, in extreme times they do not water lawns or wash cars and new housing developments includes rainwater tanks attached to each new home.  Here we are fortunate in the rain totals we see each year but regardless water is valuable and should be treated with care.

Inge,  I wish they encouraged rain water barrels here for people to use in their gardens etc instead of drawing from the town's water supply.  It would be a great tool during the summer when the water levels are running low and the grounds are so dry.

I agree. Just because it rains quite a bit in the PNW, doesn't mean we should not conserve water.
