Tend a Garden
I will tend to a garden each day, or work on starting one.

Visit a Waste Management Facility
I will visit a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.

De-Clutter My Home
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home.

Louisa Lubiak 10/25/2017 1:14 PMI was not able to complete all my challenges every day, and I wasn't able to fulfill my one-time challenge. :-( However, I did donate some $$ to NWEI, which I try to do every year, so I did manage to accrue some extra points. :-) -
Louisa Lubiak 10/24/2017 6:48 AMI really fell short of meeting my challenges this year. I did some de-cluttering, but other obligations took precedence over my daily de-cluttering goals. I couldn't tend the garden daily, as the community garden where I planted my garlic is an hour drive away - only reachable on weekends. And a work assignment got in the way of achieving my one-time challenge. :-( -
Louisa Lubiak 10/24/2017 6:43 AMThis coming Friday, I am signed-up to participate in NJDEP Volunteer Day. This volunteer activity will take place at the Elmora Community Garden in Elizabeth, NJ. Proposed projects include: community plot garden clean-up & adding additional wood chips; micro farm clean-up & garlic planting; and building raised beds and installing benches for senior citizens. Because this activity takes place after the EcoChallenge, I don't think I can take credit for it toward my challenge of tending a garden.

Louisa Lubiak 10/24/2017 6:35 AMToday I was signed-up to go on a trip to Burlington County Resource Recovery Complex in Mansfield, NJ. I'm taking a course through my office titled, "Wastewater & Environmental Infrastructure Operations". Each month there is an in-house lecture and an on-site visit to a wastewater treatment plant or recycling facility. Due to a last-minute work assignment, I couldn't go on the trip today. Bummer! No points toward my one-time challenge of visiting a waste management facility! :-( -

Louisa Lubiak 10/17/2017 2:15 PMJoan, the co-op built the beds and I was given this one to use for my garlic. I did, however, have to add 3-4 wheelbarrows' worth of soil to the existing structure before planting the garlic. -
Joan Olawski-Stiener 10/17/2017 8:42 AMThat's beautiful Louisa! Did you make all these raised beds? Very awesome! -
Louisa Lubiak 10/16/2017 6:31 AMI can't seem to get the photo of my garlic bed into the EcoChallenge blog feed. :-(
