Joann Held 10/25/2017 11:46 AMShipped 22 lbs of dental care product packaging, 8 lb of Brita Filters, and 16 pounds of wine corks today - all collected at the Farmers Market this season. That's about 45 lbs of waste going to make new products instead of being sent to a landfill. And... my basement is a lot less cluttered!-
Carey Compton 10/25/2017 12:51 PMWOW! We have a lot to look up to with all your sustainable activities and miles to catch up to all you do. Thank you Joann

Joann Held 10/24/2017 6:49 PMTrying to reduce the amount of junk mail that I receive. During this Challenge period I: opted out of one Catalogue using Catalogue Choice; asked to be removed from one mailing list using DMA Choice; and sent notes to 13 companies using the postage paid envelopes included in their solicitation. Not much compared to the enormous stack of junk mail, but at least it's a start.-
Audrey Dorofy 10/25/2017 9:36 AMThat is a good idea. I usually stand over the recycling bin tossing in all the junk mail before it even gets into my house. So much better to prevent it from coming in the first place.

Joann Held 10/23/2017 7:16 PMI took my plastic bags to the store today, too. The plastics collected at Stop & Shop go to Trex where they are made into Adirondack Chairs and Deck material. They take an amazing array of plastics there, so I was able to include my cereal bags and lots of other odds and ends.-
Carey Compton 10/25/2017 12:52 PMOh cereal bags too - that's good to know. Thank you Joann

Joann Held 10/17/2017 1:22 PMToday I called a friend who makes regular visits to the local metal scrap recycler and he came to pick up the stuff I have been saving up over the past year: 3 broken tent canopy frames, several poles, a pile of lawn sign stands, and a box full of miscellaneous items. So glad to have them out of my garage and off to being made into something new. -
Joann Held 10/15/2017 6:17 PMFound this website with lots of ways to cut down on junk mail. I'm going to start in on some of them right away. http://www.ecocycle.org/junkmail-

Joann Held 10/11/2017 8:16 PMI used Catalogue Choice several years ago to reduce unwanted Catalogues and it was great. Now I want to reduce other mailings, such as solicitations for donations and credit cards. Where can I go for help with that?
