Local Sustainability Modeling

On Oct. 13, I will coordinate an earth-friendly wedding and reception at Ferncliff Camp with up-cycled decorations, up-cycled collectible dishes, local food. Food leftovers will go to animals at Ferncliff or compost piles for the local gardens. I will pack for the wedding Oct. 11-12 and clean up Oct. 14. On Oct. 16, I will take cards for my Congressman and Senators that everyone at a Citizens Climate Lobby meeting may sign regarding support for clean renewable energy policies. I will hand-deliver the cards to their offices on Oct. 17. Specifically, I will ask Congressman French Hill to join the bipartisan House Climate Solutions Caucus. On Oct. 20, I will meet with students in the Guardians of the Planet club at Stephens Elementary School. Weather permitting, we will work in the community garden across the street from the school; if the weather is bad, we will draw pictures of animal habitats and discuss threats to their habitats. On other days, I wll work on plans for a Drawdown Conference in Little Rock on March 24, 2018, with Katharine Wilkinson, senior writer for Project Drawdown, as keynote speaker. On the other days, I also will spend my free time making up-cycled shabby-chic garlands and banneers for other upcoming weddings at Ferncliff Camp. Why? I am "retired." Protecting the planet for my grandchildren is the reason I get up every day.

On Oct. 13, I coordinated an earth-friendly wedding and reception at Ferncliff Camp with up-cycled decorations, up-cycled collectible dishes. Food leftovers went to animals at Ferncliff or compost piles for the local gardens. I packed for the wedding Oct. 11-12 and cleaned up Oct. 14, separating recycle items from garbage. On Oct. 18, I represented Ark. Interfaith Power & Light at a Partner Meeting at Stephens Elementary School, promoted the Guardians of the Planet student club, and helped Megan Canfield (photo attached) enroll parents in an online system to track energy use; I handed out LED bulbs and energy effeciency booklets (from Ark. Dept. of Environmental Quality) to participating parents. On Oct. 18, I planned a presentaton of "Before the Flood" for the public at the Oyster Bar, a local restaurant that has a party room. On Oct. 16, I disseminated an online newsletter to more than 800 contacts about a community garden day at the Promise Garden on Oct. 21. On Oct. 17, I submitted a request to my church for Citizen Climate Lobby monthly meetings in 2018 to be held in an empty classroom on a weeknight; the request was approved. Also on Oct. 17, I submitted a request to  my church for permision to charge presenters for boths at the March 24 Drawdown Conference with senior writer Katharine Wilkinson as keynote speaker; the request was approved.
