Create Your Own Action
Cool hands - warm heart
I will wash my hands with cool water to reduce dryness and do my part to reduce climate change. A 2013 study found that hot water does not reduce the amount of bacteria on hands. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ijcs.12012/full
Waste
Avoid Disposables
I will not use any disposable plates, cups, or utensils.
Transportation
Go by Bike
I will commute by bike 6 mile(s) per day and avoid sending up to 3.2 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Energy
Consider Switching to an Electric Vehicle
I will research or test drive an electric car or bike.
Food
Smart Seafood Choices
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Food
Eat Meatless Meals
I will enjoy 3 meatless meal(s) per day.
Waste
Needs vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Lydia Vandenbergh 10/24/2017 7:10 PMI think I’ve finally gotten into the habit of washing my hands in cool water rather than turning on the hot spigot. Also for the year I’m about to see my bike odometer hit 900 miles. Now that feels good! -

Lydia Vandenbergh 10/15/2017 9:22 AMAttending a conference and amazed at how much disposable
Plastics are used by hotels and conference centers. Carrying around my own water bottle and travel mug keeps the waste down.-
David Jones 10/18/2017 6:14 PMThere are so many opportunities to change the unsustainable “norms” built into our culture! I also carry my (2j water bottles with me in my backpack wherever I go.

Lydia Vandenbergh 10/05/2017 8:17 AMLast week, when eating out, the waitress brought water to the table in tall glasses, all with a plastic straw. Having just seen the statistic that 90% of all the plastics we consume are only used once, I've begun noticing how often this is true. So, even though there is no EcoChallenge action specific to straws, I will start specifically asking not to have straws when at restaurants.-

Sherry Hall 10/05/2017 9:06 AMThanks for this post. I remember hearing years ago that a large percentage of paper is only used once as well so we should think twice before deciding to hit that print button.
