Lynn GRINNELL 10/25/2017 7:38 PMI also had created a new challenge in Transportation, but it never appeared in mt list of actions. I was having a lot of trouble meeting my goal of driving in a more eco-friendly fashion, but I was reminded by one of my brilliant students that I owned a Prius, which has the awesome capability of displaying the eco-friendliness of my driving from second to second. Over the last three days, watching that mode of display, I was able to reduce the "red" area of my driving style by over 50% (est.). As a stats geek, I would like to do a comparison of mpg prior to and after the change, but I would have to have set up a much more controlled experiment. Perhaps I will try that, but I am already adjusting to an eco-friendlier style of driving and am not sure I want to tempt myself with the lead foot syndrome. It's akin to alcoholism, and I need to stay away from the temptation! -
Lynn GRINNELL 10/16/2017 7:26 PMToday, I enjoyed the best of all worlds - easy, organic, and low cal: Amy's Light and Lean. Pasta was a little mushy and meatless meatballs didn't taste anything like meatballs, but they were quite tasty. Overall, not bad... -
Lynn GRINNELL 10/14/2017 8:11 PMMy household and I have been notorious for leaving on TVs and lights when we leave one space for another. I find myself being very cognizant of turning them off this week. Today I talked to some of the people in my house about joining the eco-challenge, and suggested they do likewise. I find myself mentioning the eco-challenge to bangers at the grocery store when they take note of all the organic food I am buying. -
Lynn GRINNELL 10/11/2017 6:51 PMI chose to eat one organic meal a day, and I've found it's not easy! I am really busy, and don't have time to cook more than once a week (more or less). I tried to find organic frozen food at my grocery store (which is really a good store), but the choices were sparse. I'll have to go to Whole Foods. What's more, organic food is not cheap! I had to buy some organic staples (e.g., olive oil, vinegar, flour, pasta, etc.) and 3-4 meals (for four), and it cost $130! And there is no such thing as organic gravy mix! (Yes, I know, processed = bad). So, I will make a rich gravy with organic butter, organic flour, and organic broth. It's a start. I just wish I had 26 hours a day!
