I will limit my social media use to once per day.
Simplicity
Less Screen Time
I will replace 30 minute(s) of screen time per day with other activities.

Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.

Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of C02 over the course of the next year.
Transportation
Choose a Carbon Offset
If buying a plane ticket, I will also buy a carbon offset.
Community
Write Letters or Emails
I will write 1 letter(s) or email(s) per day to a public official or company to advocate for planet-friendly policies or something else I believe in.
Create Your Own Action
Actually meditate every day! For Real.
Goal= meditate at least 20 mins/day. The value of meditation in achieving a focused, non-reactive state of mental clarity, from which good actions arise naturally, is indisputable. I have already experienced the benefits of sporadic meditation; time to level up and see if I can establish a daily practice!
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Sue Barns 10/25/2017 9:55 AMLast day! Time to do my one-time challenge of buying carbon offsets for our upcoming plane flight. While I'm at it, I think I'll find our our carbon footprint for the year (lifestyle + travel), and buy offsets for the whole enchilada. Time to count our mileage, kWh, therms of natural gas, etc. and offset what we couldn't reduce :-) Easy to do here: https://carbonfund.org/ -
Sue Barns 10/23/2017 7:56 AMLast few days of the EcoChallenge! I have to go shopping today, and hope I can keep to my list and only buy things I need. Wish me luck!-
Anne Whiting 10/23/2017 8:03 AMBest of luck!

Sue Barns 10/20/2017 7:10 AMToday will be a good day to get a little gardening done! The gophers have pushed up some dirt in the front yard, which can get moved to the future Kale Kingdom, and I will order some seeds! Hope everyone's challenges are still going well. -
Sue Barns 10/19/2017 12:04 PMShopped at the Farmer's Market and only bought what I needed (food). I will really miss the market when it shuts down for the season! So much good food from local growers, it spoils us... -
Sue Barns 10/18/2017 7:08 AMI had the perfect opportunity to achieve my challenge of "only buy items necessary for health and safety", but then blew it by buying a package of chocolates when shopping at the Co+op! I was hungry, and acted out of mindless habit :-( Some of these challenges seem so easy, but can be so difficult if conditions aren't perfect. However, I see from our team points total that many of you are having success, so rock on! -
Sue Barns 10/17/2017 2:29 PMLooks like I won't be able to plant my kale seeds for a few weeks, due to travel plans. But they will get planted! (after I order them... ) -
Sue Barns 10/16/2017 12:57 PMMore "quality time in nature (instead of screen time)", this morning up by the Ski Lodge helping with PEEC's Nature Play group. The aspens are still soooo beautiful up there, so get on up to see them if you haven't yet (and even if you have :-) Go Team! -
Sue Barns 10/15/2017 2:29 PMDuring my "30 mins of quality time outside" I saw the most colorful oak leaves ! The afternoon light really made the yellows, oranges and reds pop. I may have to get out tomorrow for some photography, before the leaves fall. -
Sue Barns 10/14/2017 8:31 AMOff for a big hike today, which should help me nail my "replace 30 mins of screen time with quality time outside" challenge! Hope everyone else has a lovely, and successful, Saturday! -
Sue Barns 10/13/2017 2:01 PMSo far my favorite challenge, and the hardest one to carry through, has been to limit social media to once per day. I knew I was somewhat addicted to checking FB, but, wow, taking that option off the table has really opened up some time! And, I feel MUCH less distracted and scattered, much easier to focus and get things done. Yay!
