Can't believe it's already the last day. Nick's right, 3 weeks would be a real challenge! While I haven't been perfect at all my challenges, EcoChallenge has once again renewed my awareness of the environmental impact my daily actions have.

Yesterday I ate my lunch outside & walked home from work. Grateful for this beautiful weather!

One thing I gave up when I moved recently is curbside yard waste pickup for composting. While meal prepping yesterday I had to throw away so much food waste that I wish I could have composted. Any resources for fellow apartment dwellers/NW residents who want to compost?

Last I checked, no required/guaranteed composting for multi-family units in NW :( Maybe lobby your management company?

A big thanks to Amber for organizing today's group challenge! I never would have taken the time to seek out my representatives and write them letters on my own. Knowing who to write to, what makes an impact (letters vs. emails vs. phone calls) and what to ask them to support was really helpful. Plus I found out that my Representative and Senator are both rated 100% by the OLCV. Win!

Picked up a new reusable shopping bag yesterday when I found myself out without one. I've been meaning to do this anyway, so it was a worthwhile $1 spent!

EcoChallenge makes me more aware of all the little impacts we have on the environment. Felt really guilty throwing away a ton of plastic packaging from a mattress & bed frame I got this week.

I had to get creative at the store yesterday since I didn't have a big enough bag for all my stuff. Will need to get in a better habit of carrying a shopping bag with me for those quick grocery stops on the way home.

Woke up to a beautiful sunrise this morning! No way for an iPhone to do it justice, though.

Over the weekend I continued my no disposable bags challenge at Ikea. I meant to bring the large blue Ikea bag I already have, but of course forgot it. Fortunately they're only 99 cents, so I just bought one at the checkout line to get my goods home.

Grateful for an east-facing apartment so I can enjoy the sunrise each morning. I finished my shower a minute early, but noticed how much water gets wasted while I wait for it to warm up (takes a while in an old building). I'm going to try to salvage some of that water to use for other purposes, rather than let it run down the drain.

I usually try to skip a bag when shopping if possible, but the cashiers are so quick to automatically bag things up. My challenge is helping me remember to tell them right away not to use a disposable bag. Fortunately, there's no plastic bags in Portland, so if one slips through, I'm sure to recycle it.
