Adventures in Thumbholes

"I'm so concern and aware of all the waste we as a society produce. Small changes in our daily basis life can make a big difference in our world. My personal daily challenge is to avoid using single-use plastic or anything that it is not necessary. Sharing my passion and love for my Mother Earth is my motto. "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one, I hope one day you'll join us and the world will be as one" John Lennon/ Yoko Onno Imagine."

I read the article I'm sharing here and it hits me, I live by myself and just imagine what my sister will have to go through if something happens to me, so I started cleaning my closet and giving so many things away as well throwing things to the garbage. Thanks for the Eco-challenge experience, it was great seeing so many people committed to doing something positive! Hope we created a routine or just adopt good habits in our daily basis. Some maybe start eating more veggies, other maybe they are vegan now :), others will keep picking up trash or some other just stop littering (that would help a lot), what if other just stop smoking <3!! thanks again!

During my morning walk, I felt so grateful for the nice weather we are having lately here in Texas. Having my dogs with me and knowing that Bruno my rescued dog is behaving better, makes me feel so happy, and just confirmed me that I love my Mother Earth and all the work we do together is worthed.

Since we started the Eco-Challenge I've been saving the peels and anything that can be composted. This morning I was watering my plants and the dry leaves will be included in the composting batch.  I found out last night that one lettuce head in the landfills takes 25 years to get decomposed. I haven't watched the movie, but I'm looking forward to.  If any of you have watched would you please share what do you think about it. Wish I knew it earlier.

I went to Sprouts and I brought  my own bags with me and let my friend to borrow now, and she didn't use plastic for veggies. Reuse a bag my boss throw away. I reuse all I can!

Today was a day for speak up and request, trying to reduce waste in our Mother, Earth. Here is a summary:

1.- At the gym LA FITNESS yesterday there were around 10 - 15 pink and silver balloons for Breast Cancer awareness month, which it's a very good cause, but why don't use other things as pink flags instead of balloons? well, I asked them what would with them afterward? nobody knows, he said that he will give me answer today. Sadly this morning the balloons were gone!!  Nor the receptionist nor the trainer could give me an answer where they ended up. I just told the trainer my concern and how harmful they could be. It was a point where he told me there are worst things in this world, I took a deep breath and replied: I know but if I can do something to avoid the slow and painful death of an innocent animal I would do it!. So well I hope he got the message and pass it to the headquarter. As well I talk about litterbugs in our area, yes I have picked up trash outside the gym specifically plastic bottles. Sorry, I don't have pictures of the balloons.

As you can tell my mission or eco challenge is reduce the waste and clean my Mother Earth as much as I can.

Since yesterday I've been pushing myself and waking up before 6 am,  I usually wake up at 7.30am just enough time to get to work. So I've going to the gym, working out, away from my cell phone and just focusing on my workout, it might look simple but for me, it is a big step and big effort.

I keep plates, bowls, silverware, cups, and chopsticks at my office and share them with my friend. I just learned how to make lentils, and my friend loves them!. I have stopped buying chickpeas in the can to avoid more waste, even though I take cans to the recycling center, but I want to reduce my waste as much as possible. Here are the lentils with veggies and chickpeas I cooked last night at 11 pm, my commitment to bring healthy food is stronger than going to bed. My soup was delicious btw!
I share my plates and silverware so my friends won't use plastic utensils or plates.

Every day is a new day,  every walk with my dogs is a new adventure and it really amazed me to find plastic EVERYWHERE and every single day, what I have been doing for the last 3 years is pick up trash and recycle all the plastic, cans, cardboard and anything that can be recycled, I have learned why we need to pay attention to the numbers at the bottom of all the containers. These items were picked up this morning at 6am, this is the way I love to start my day, cleaning my Mother Earth and saving the plastic bottles out there to spend an eternity in the landfills. Please refuse single use plastic and bring your own cup all the time, say no to plastic, PLASTIC STAYS FOREVER.  The cups, lids, straws and tictac box are not recyclable.
