    Though I wasn't able to attend out group challenge last week with the Oregon League of Conversation voters, I read through their literature and found out that my State Senator, Sen. Taylor, scored 100% in pro-environment bill votes. I sent a thank you email and advocated for cleaner air quality in our neighborhood.

    Having a hard time staying away from refined sugar. The struggle is real.

    Home energy audit = check. Due to my home's age, single-pane windows and inefficient heating system, my home was designated as one of the least efficient single-family homes in my neighborhood.

    A potential savings of 44%, or over $2,800, is achievable with the below measures. I am going to write my landlord to see if any of these are possible, most notably attic insulation and water heater upgrades, as they are the most feasible upgrades. 

    - Upgrade attic insulation
    - Upgrade old and inefficient heating system to 
    - Replace all windows to double-pane
    - Add additional wall and HVAC ductwork insulation
    - Upgrade to a high-efficiency water heater

    Fri-yay! We had a successful first one-time group challenge and watched the documentary "Dirt!". It re-sparked my passion for connecting with the Earth and reminded me why I chose interior design as a career in the first place: to make a positive impact on our planet through our actions in the built environment.

    I couldn't muster the courage to change my thermostat yesterday. It was too darn chilly in the house.

    Though not one of my challenges, I started the day off right by bringing my lunch in a reusable container and getting coffee in a reusable thermostat to help instill more sustainable behavior.

    Looking forward to tomorrow and helping reducing the impact we have on our planet. John Muir said "Sheep, like people, are ungovernable when hungry." I think this sums ups exactly the spirit and drive we have as EcoChallenge participants.
